Spare days
Tomorrow is the last day of school. It's the end of a learning season. The way I see it, the beginning of summer vacation starts next Monday, not Saturday. There wouldn't have been school on Saturday or Sunday anyhow, so they are exempt from both the school year and summer vacation. They are interim days. There are certain things that you can expect with a school year--getting up early, homework, projects due. And with summer vacation there are certainties--the ice cream man, water fights, sleeping outside. So this year, after the school year and before summer vacation, there are two days. They are days without expectations or certainties. They are exempt from the pressure of school and the freedom of summer. How rare and wonderful! Those days don't happen too often, so I'd better take full advantage of them.
