What a haul!

Last night at our church they held a Halloween Carnival and a Trunk or Treat. Everyone parked their cars in the parking lot, opened and decorated their trunk or back of their car and the kids walked around to Trick or Treat. It's sooooo much easier than the traditional trek around the neighborhood--quick and painless. Each time they Trick or Treat I go through their candy bags before they chow down. Yes, it's a safety thing but also I'm curious to see what kind of candy is going around nowadays. That and candy tax. My Aunt Janet taught me years ago that you teach your children about paying taxes on Halloween by inspecting their candy and taking what you want in the name of taxes. I also include a fee for actually taking them out.
This year there were mint Rocky Roads with cashews--I'd forgotten about Rocky Road candy bar. There was the traditional Double Bubble gum (hard as a rock pink orbs) but this year they came in Watermelon and Apple flavors. I was very happy to see a few Bit O' Honey--I only see them in Halloween candy bags. There were also stickers--stickers?? As a kid we used to get toothbrushes from a neighbor who was a dentist, but who is giving out stickers?? The teachers??
However, in Jesse's bag there was something extraordinary. A ladies gold watch. When he said "Look I got a watch!" I was expecting one of those fake watches with little beebees rolling around on the watch face. Nope. A gold watch. I'm imagining a woman from our church scanning the parking lot with her flashlight after the festivities, hoping a departing car didn't smash her watch to pieces. Little did she know she dropped it into a candy bag. Thankfully our church has a lost and found. I still can't imagine what kind of skinny wrist this woman must have had to have her watch drop off and not notice. Bizarre!
