My family has been staying with my brother, sister-in-law and nephew for awhile, and we've been enjoying the "big family" experience. It's especially fun to have a toddler around again. I had forgotten what it's like to live with an almost-two-year-old. It's especially amusing when he throws a fit. I know as a mother it's annoying and difficult, but as an aunt--very entertaining!
The hubby and boys and I took advantage of this past holiday weekend to do some camping, so we have been gone for quite a few days in a row. Coming home was great because my nephew was SO excited to see us--especially my kids. He really loves his cousins. After coming home, however, we have had early days and late nights. We often leave before my nephew is awake and come home after he is asleep.
A few days ago, he awoke right before we left. He was happily milling about with us as we ran around trying to get out the door. I shouted to my boys "OK, time to go!" My nephew pulled his sippy-cup out of his mouth, looked up at me and asked "Go?" I thought he wanted to come with us, so I said "I have to take the Munchkin Brothers to school. We have to go."
In true two-year-old style, his face fell, he threw his cup and "assumed the position." Throwing himself on his belly, he arched his back and started wailing loudly. Again, hilarious to me. But also very heart-warming, because this protest showed me that he missed us and didn't want us to leave. I loved seeing that fit! It made me realize that we are loved.
This morning as we walked out he did much better, waving and giving us kisses as we left. I guess he's figuring out that no matter how dramatic the fit, we still have to leave, and he's learning to be OK with that. And I love seeing that too.

I love you guys too, and if the next time I see you I don't throw myself on my belly, arch my back and start wailing loudly, know that really inside- I am.
I love you guys too. My daughter just found out you were living with her cousin instead of us. Boy did I get it! "You know mom, we have 2 guest rooms and a HUGE family room. Why can't they just stay with us? Don't they like us anymore?" I know--I am the meanest mom because everybody else's schedule doesn't coincide with my daughter's! I guess my kids just got spoiled because you usually stay with us when you are in town and they still haven't clicked that you live here. To tell you the truth, I am jealous not to have another woman around. You and Amber have it great right now--at least from my side of the fence. We really need to get together soon with our kids too!
And I love you too. And I promise if you come visit me I won't throw a tantrum if you leave.
