Treasures from Tennessee

I lived in Nashville for a time and I learned that there were some great places to go for great music. My favorite place to listen to music was Kroger. Yes, the grocery store.
In Green Hills, the Kroger played musak--instrumental versions of Burt Bacharach, Frank Sinatra, and the ever popular "Girl from Ipanema". Not my favorite Kroger. (Strangely enough, this Kroger is located across the street from the Bluebird Cafe, where Garth Brooks was discovered.)
My favorite Kroger, affectionately called "The Groovin' Kroger", was located, as my trailer-park friend Vicki would say, "in a more colorful part of town". I loved shopping at the Groovin' Kroger! It played motown. Jackson 5, Marvin Gaye, The Temptations, The Supremes and the ever fabulous Stevie Wonder. Mostly, I liked turning the corner into a new aisle and catching some unsuspecting shopper dancing and singing to the music.
There was also a local station that played new artists. That is where I first heard Nickel Creek. I was also introduced to one of my favorite songs on that station, The Bottomless Lake, by John Prine. (For many years I've had a secret fear of driving into a body of water that even the Mythbusters episode can't cure.)
Here are some other treasures I "found" in Nashville:
"I Won't Back Down" sung by Johnny Cash
"Savanna Flowers" by Bonepony
"Leap of Faith" by Delbert McClinton
"Top of the Rollercoaster" by David Wilcox
"Walk Between the Raindrops" by James McMurtry
