Bah humbug

Robin hasn't blogged again since my last blog-----

I'm being a total Scrooge this year. I'm not at all excited for Christmas.
Don't get me wrong, I'm still doing the whole Christmas thing for my kids--I wouldn't spoil theirs, but I just don't feel it.

Now, before you barrage me with ideas on how to get into the Christmas spirit, know that I'm giving it the good ole college try. I'm going to see Paige in the Bell Concert, I'm joining some co-workers in a gingerbread house contest, I'm singing in church, and I've got my stuff for Sinterklauss Day, but still. It's just not there for me.

Yeah, I could schedule a Temple Square trip, take my kids for breakfast with Santa on Saturday, and attend the neighborhood cookie exchange, but I don't think that's going to change my attitude. Just make me more stressed.

So don't be rushing in saying "We can fix that!" Maybe it doesn't need to be fixed. Maybe I need this year to appreciate Christmas next year. Or maybe it's the beginning of the end. Maybe I can quit Christmas altogether and save lots of money.

Or maybe I can just get some good sleep tonight and start over again tomorrow.

I'm right there with you. What is this year?? I'd just like to get to more of the real reason for the season.

I vote for the last option: get some sleep and start over tomorrow. That always works for me when nothing else seems to.

Now I don't know why I've heard so many people say they just aren't in the Christmas spirit yet. You have the WHOLE month to get the Christmas spirit. If it's not there in full force the first week of December, there's nothing wrong with that! There are seasons in our lives, and if this is a take it easy year and don't go crazy and get out all the decorations, that's ok, too. Except for that one cute Santa decoration that your good friend Paige gave you. I think you should definitely get THAT one out.

Don't stress it Mich. I haven't been into Christmas for the past 2 years. This year I am just NOW getting a little more into it but last week I was cancelling Christmas too. I think any time you have been through a bunch of stress or changes or anything like that, it just takes a bit. And if you go through it all and still "miss" Christmas, that's ok too. As Paige said, "You will get your shop back". It just might not be this year. So start Jan first and shoot for a good Christmas in 2008.

I completely understand. Many years Christmas is just one more thing on an already overloaded list of things. Don't get me wrong...I love the season, but I just don't have time to do it like I would like to. I would love to have the time to send (Homemade) Christmas cards to all my friends, bake with my children, decorate the house, perform acts of service and go caroling...in my spare time..;o) But many years come and go and it doesn't happen. Relax. Find one tradition to enjoy with your kids, find time to do a small act of kindness, allow others to do acts of kindness for you (without feeling you need to reciprocate) count your blessings and drink one gulp of eggnog for every blessing you can think of...but what ever you do don't let it stress you out!!! ...And have a Merry Christmas!!!

I had a hard time trying to get Christmas to "reach" me this year. The kids were excited about it, but my husband and I just survived it. Hopefully next year will be better. It's probably my attitude more than anything, but it feels like Christmas was just a stressful blur.

By the way, thanks for letting me know about your blog. Nice seeing you at Paige's birthday, too!
